Tyler's Date with Mom

One of the best things about being a dad is that whenever I am home Tyler is excited. I'm like the novelty act that doesn't get old because I'm just not around much. Poor Jamie on the other hand is the one that is around all the time. Also, since when I am home Jamie usually is as well, but when Jamie is home I'm usually not; Tyler has a harder time getting Jamie's undivided attention (after all someone has to take care of little Marcus).

Of course, this story isn't about how its great to be the dad and hard to be the mom. The story is that a few weeks ago Jamie and I noticed that Tyler needed some special mom time. So, Jamie and Tyler planned out his first date with mom. For several days ahead of time we built it up and the day before it was all Tyler could talk about. He was as excited as could be about his "Special Date".

The special Saturday came and both Tyler and mom got dressed in nicer clothes. Jamie took Tyler to Winger's, his favorite restaurant mostly because of the popcorn bowls you get right when seated, and told him he could order whatever he wanted (neither of us were surprised that he picked Mac & Cheese). Jamie even let Tyler talk her into ordering a Concrete Pie (I'm sure it didn't take too much convincing).

After the dinner, Jamie took Tyler to the video store for the first time (yes we have deprived him of this up until now with good reason). He was very excited when he found a Scooby Doo movie. He had never actually seen a Scooby Doo movie, I don't think, but he knew that Cousin Morgan was a big fan so he thought it was pretty cool that he got to rent a Scooby Doo show. Best of all, it was Scooby Doo and the Ghost Pirates to go along with the Pirate theme our house has had going of late.

Tyler and Mom snuggled up on the couch and watched the show. They were so cute together. I'm really glad that they were able to spend some quality one on one time. Tyler is very lucky to have such a great mom, and we are very lucky to have such a wonderful son. He continues to be a truly caring and sweet little toddler. Even if, at times, he can be a challenge for his mom.

Sounds like a fun night. The picture of Jamie and Tyler on the couch watching the movie looks like they really got into it. In fact the way their eyes looked on the full size picture made me think maybe they were posessed by the pirate ghosts (don't you hate red eye). Anyway, thanks for keeping us updated about the adventures of Tyler and Marcus (with Mom and Dad of course).

just for the record, Tyler has been to the video store at least 3 times Kent. You're just usually not around.

For those who haven't figured it out, that first anonymous message was from Jamie herself...not particularly well disguised given that 3 minutes later she made a comment that she attached her name to. However, she is right...she is one hot mama and I love that she is trying to add to our blog.
